We had our first meeting of 2024, on a lovely warm evening. Some regular members were not able to make it as they were away for the Waitangi Day long weekend, but we were pleased to welcome a prospective new member.
We heard from Gillian about the Taranaki Guitar week, which sounded like it was a great success, despite some catering and other logistical issues.
There was a good range of pieces played:
Sue played a Hewlet variation, and played (and sang) Country Ride
Bill played Minuet Opus 11#5, by Sor
Gillian played Simple Etude # 1 by Leo Brouwer
Evan gave us some flamenco style with Solea 1 & 2 by Juan Martin
We had some Argentinian flavour with David playing Suite del recuerdo by Jose Merlin
Wolfgang played a Chet Atkins arrangement of La Vie en Rose
Tom ended with a dark arrangement of Wayfaring Stranger by Gary Ryan.
Of note, we tried selecting the order of players in advance, so that there was less anxiety working out who would go next after each performance, and that seemed to go well and so we may well try that as an on-going thing. Hope to see you at the February meeting!
